Leaves heart shaped, small, flat on the ground. Margins ciliate.
Eriospermum marginata - Montagu
To my understanding Eriospermum marginata is very similar to Eriospermum zeyheri. Eriospermum marginata has a red leaf edge, however this does not always seem to be the case. Eriospermum zeyheri usually lacks the red margin, but also there I have seen specimens that actually do have it.
Eriospermum marginata occurs roughly from Montagu westwards while Eriospermum zeyheri is found eastwards in the Little Karoo and coast. I shall have to recheck this distribution again later
Eriospermum capense - 'Corrugata' Uitspan
There seem to be a number of corrugated forms of Eriospermum capense south west of Oudtshoorn. These plants are often smaller (not always) thenthe more typical forms.
One of the most attractive forms are at Uitspan at the Gouritz River.

Eriospermum dielsianum ssp. molle differs from the typical variety in that the flesh is pink whereas ins ssp dielsianum it is white. The ssp. molle has a coastal distribution. The leaves are usually densely covered with hairs and the flesh is reddish.
Although the plants from east of Albertinia occur in the coastal area and in therefore in the distribution area of ssp molle, the flesh of these bulbs is white and I take them to be ssp. dielsianum. The flowers are white and similar to those of the species.

Eriospermum aequilibre - South of Volmoed type form
Three interesting forms are known from the Volmoed area. They appear to be geographically separated to some degree. This is the type form.

Eriospermum dielsianum ssp dielsianum - R 3454 Patryskloof E of Worcester
I am never confident when dealing with the differences between Eriospermum dielsianum and Eriospermum pubescens. In the latter case the abaxial leaf hairs are pressed against the leaf and
have a golden brown shine. In the case of Eriospermum dielsianum the hairs are straight and tend to curl. I must admit they are still very close to the leaf surface. The flowers of the two species are similar.

The leaves are quite variable in shape, but are mostly heart shaped

An Eriospermum sp.nov from Namuskluft Namibia. Some resemblance to E. Cervicorne but smaller. It grows in dolomite.

Eriospermum bowieanum has a rather small distribution and only occurs naturally in the Robertson Karoo. The plants are apparently quite rare. More data later.

Eriospermum aequilibre - Near Oudtshoorn
Eriospermum aequilibre from the ferricrete areas near Oudtshoorn differ markedly from the forms growing in shale near Leopoort and so also from Eriospermum aequilibre type form .
The leaves are longer and can be blue grey to green. Some forms have attractive undulate leaves .

Eriospermum 'albertii'
The name Eriospermum 'albertii' is temporarily used until a proper description is done, or is found in archives.
This interesting bulb maybe related to Eriospermum corymbosusm, but is larger and the peduncle taller, to name but two differences. It does share the same leaf colour though.

Originally discovered by Gerhard Marx this Eriospermum is found west of Prince Albert. The leaves resemble Eriospermum capense to some degree but are distinctly greyish-green as compared to green of the latter. I have not found any reference to this plant in the thesis of Pauline Perry, but could have missed it due to the large amount of data there.

The peduncle is distinctly succulent and by estimate only around 10 cm high. The yellow to maroon flowers are surprisingly attractive.
Eriospermum aequilibre - Leopoort south of Oudtshoorn
Eriospermum aequilibre occurs widespread between Oudtshoorn and Uniondale and is usually rather uncommon. It has occasionally been spotted elsewhere in the Little Karoo.
At Leopoort the plants are quite similar to the type form. They have a single, small, rather thin, erect blue-grey leaf.

Eriospermum aequilibre 'Volmoedensis'
Eriospermum aequilibre 'Volmoedensis' is an interesting variant of the typical species which seems to occur in only a small area near Volmoed south of Oudtshoorn.
The leaf shape is mostly ovate and much broader than that of the typical form..

A very attractive undulate form of Eriospermum aequilibre occurs at Rooikloof Volmoed.
Interestingly Eriospermum aequilibre "Volmoedensis" with ovate/round leaves occurs only a few kilometers from here

The shape of the leaf is very variable and although the leaf is often raised above the ground and reddish underneath these characteristics are not constant and the only way to identify this species is by observing the flowers.
