Similar to Haworthia bayeri with the flowering time in November instead of September. Only known from a few km south of Oudtshoorn. It may grade into Haworthia truteriorum and H indogoa which are 20 or 30 km south of Oudtshoorn. No related plants have been recorded in between.
Haworthia hayashii grows on ferricrete red hillsides south of Oudtshoorn. The plants are usually well hidden and partly covered with soil or debris from bushes
The plants link probably with Haworthia bayeri which is found more towards the east. Haworthia hayashii looks similar to Haworthia bayeri, but it flowers later, around November. It seems to be an inbetween form of Haworthia truteriorum or H indigoa which occur further south.
Older plants of Haworthia bayeri may develop a shiny epidermis in time. This feature seems to be lacking in Haworthia hayashii. ( I shall follow up on this statement soon)
