Aloe pictifolia

Aloe pictifolia grows in  an isolated location and  is very rare in nature. It seems perfectly happy on steep cliffs where it overlooks the Kouga River near Hankey

Aloe humilis x maculata - Dysselsdorp

Found in a Aloe humilis population. Aloe maculata grows in the vicinity introduced at graveyard.

Gonialoe variegata - 'Pale Giant'

A large growing form with a light green colour and many white markings. This plant measured 34 cm across. Much of the growth was due to watering, but it still outgrew others with the same treatment, by far.

Originating from seed from the Oudtshoorn area.

Plants flowering in a garden in Sedgefield, Southern Cape. This is far away from their natural habitat in KwaZula -Natal and Mpumalanga. The plants are relatively easy to cultivate,  apparently withstanding even cold climates.

Aloe dichotoma

Aloe dichotoma
Aloe dichotoma is closely related to Aloe ramosissima.

On the question of what soil to use the following: (Apologies I had to post the whole post again with reply below as there seems to have been a glitch.)

In general a well drained sandy or stony soil I prefer especially the top layer. We avoid compost, but other growers add compost. Mostly hot dry conditions are preferred, but I have seen them growing even in gardens in George southern Cape which has moderate temperatures and is quite humid.  Good watering stimulates growth, but will also increase the chances of rot when the plants get older. Young plants can be watered quite regularly in hot summer weather. As they grow older I prefer the water them very seldom -imitating Northern Cape harsh conditions.
