Initially published as Haworthia craussii (Hayashi). this is a fairly large growing relative of Haworthiopsis tesselata from Riverton north of Kimberley. It was named in honor Mr. S. J. Crous and the plant was later renamed as Haworthiopsis tesselata var. crousii .
The plants are less proliferous than other tesselata and grow mainly on open plains instead of rocky areas.
