Strumaria gemmata occurs widespread in a number of provinces of South Africa where the bulbs are usually found on stony hill slopes or well drained flats.
It is a small and attractive little bulb belonging to the family Amaryllidaceae.
The pale yellow flowers appear in autumn and the seeds ripen soon after flowering. The seeds germinate unaided. Propagation is by seed which should be sown in a well drained sandy soil.
The bulbs lose their linear shaped leaves during the hot summer months.
