Brunsvigia minor

From Keurkloof.

Orginally from Keurkloof Nature Reserve south of Oudtshoorn.  The flower structure is about the same as the Oudtshoorn form of   Brunsvigia striata but  the pedicels are shorter and fewer in number. The bulbs are also smaller. I shall rather keep the name Brunsvigia minor for now as the plants seem to be distinct from Brunsvigia striata which occurs widespread some 10 km and more to the north of this locality without in between forms that I know. So there is no  indicating of  a gradual change. At  Keurkloof  the flowers of  Brunsvigia minor have a reddish pink colour with little variation, while the larger  Brunsvigia striata varies in colour  with different shades of pink.

In the Oudtshoorn and Garcia's Pass area Brunsvigia minor is associated with transitory, semi-fynbos vegetation while Brunsvigia striata occurs in Karoo veld.

Sedgefield

Brunsvigia orientalis
This beautiful and large flowering bulb from Sedgefield at the Southern Cape coast looks a bit similar to Brunsvigia josephinae which is known from north of the Outeniqua - and Langeberg mountains in more arid terrain. It differs from B josephinae in that the bulbs are completely underground and the flower petals are larger at the base.
