Crassula R040220B East of Worcester

I cannot find information regarding this plant. Not sure if it has been described. The plants were found on a steep lower slope of the Hex River Mountain range east of Worcester.

Small offsets maybe for sale on Plant Auction .

Babiana tritonioides

I received these from a friend. They occur in the Richtersveld. There seems to be little information available of this species. Not for sale yet. Hope to get some seed.

Flowering end of July and August.

Nelia schlechteri

Nelia schlechteri is a rare species found in the Richtersveld, It occurs around Soetwaterberg and other mountains further north.

Original seedlings obtained from Mr. Gerhard Marx

Lachenalia karoopoortensis - Karreevier Tanqua Karoo

I take this to be Lachenalia karoopoortensis which occurs in the Ceres, and Tanqua Karoo. Please correct me if I am wrong. The tips of the tepals do not seem to be as red as the type form.

Tulista pumila - Donut 080720A

A Tulista pumila Donut form of unknown origin. It tends to proliferate with age

Bulbine R180720 - Karree Rivier

Thus far I have no ID for this interesting species found in the Tanqua Karoo. The plant has unusual semi-prostrate, shiny, brown, terete leaves. It flowers during July in cultivation at Leopoort.

In habitat September 2013

Haworthia 'Regal Star'

A fantastic show piece by Gerhard Marx. In his own words:

"Haworthia splendens ‘Collage’ may look like a splendens x Black Knight hybrid but it is a pure H. splendens linked to the Keurfontein (Soutpanskoppies) population (GM 452). It is densely patterned in chocolate lines dotted with pale beige spots and rows of small mini-windows.

Regal Star is a hybrid between the naturally large and densely chocolate-lined H. splendens ‘Collage’ and a hybrid between H. badia and H. splendens ‘Shikinjo’. It inherited the beautiful markings and large size from ‘Collage’ and the elegant long downward-curving leaves from H. badia."

Haworthia maughanii - M06111604

Ex Gerhard Marx. Seed from selected plants South Africa x Japan.

Ferraria ferrariola - Kammieskroon

The lines on the tepals are typical of the species. The leaves are linear. Flowering time is in July.

Ledebouria undulata - Bowadrif Tanqua Karoo

Ledebouria undulata is ann endemic of the Northern Cape Province and sections of the Western Cape where it is largely confined to stony desert regions.

The attractive grey waxy leaves appear in winter and have undulated margins. During spring the bulbs lose their leaves and flowering takes place during spring and summer. The small flowers are mostly pinkish to green.

At Bowadrif in the Tanqua Karoo the plants usually grow exposed in  grey shale. The are pretty rare.

Ledebouria undulata flowers.

Haworthia maughanii 190220A

A product of selective breeding, combining top local and Japanese material. Grown from seed over many years, this plant has not reached it full potential yet. Created by Mr. Gerhard Marx.

Eriospermum dielsianum ssp. dielsianum affinity - East of Albertinia

Eriospermum dielsianum ssp. molle differs from the typical variety in that the flesh is pink whereas ins ssp dielsianum it is white. The ssp. molle has a coastal distribution. The leaves are usually densely covered with hairs and the flesh is reddish.

Although the plants from east of Albertinia occur in the coastal area and in therefore in the distribution area of ssp molle, the flesh of these bulbs is white and I take them to be ssp. dielsianum. The flowers are white and similar to those of the species.

More data later,

Massonia longipes - Still Bay

Massonia longipes has a coastal distribution. It has striking pustulate leaves that often have maroonish streakes. The plants are easily confused with Massonia pustulata but latter has a distinctive blue nectar, the pustules are less heterogenous and the plants occur more inland.

Massonia longipes flowers around early July in cultivation. The filaments can be white or pinkish.

Showing white and pinkish filaments.

Eriospermum aequilibre - South of Volmoed type form

Three interesting forms are known from the Volmoed area. They appear to be geographically separated to some degree. This is the type form.

Drimia platyphylla - South of Volmoed

The bulbs appear to be rather scarce in this area. Flowers not seen yet.
